Reds Out for Revenge: Manchester City vs Manchester United – Preview

29 November 2008 by

First and last time

United and city clash for what will be the 151st time in what will no doubt be a derby to remember. Coming into the game off back to back defeats will strengthen United’s resolve to come away with a result, but more importantly, restore some lost pride back into the red side of manchester.

With new signing Robinho added to their ranks, and city’s recent run of form, United will have to fight tooth and nail at the city of manchester in what will surely be an enthralling match.

Both managers have seen better days

However, it is not just good fortune and new owners, which has seen city through one of their best league starts in decades, but a true red legend who has no doubt learnt, first hand, from the words of  Sir Alex.

None other than old Sparky himself, who scored 119 goals in 345 appearances for the devils, which has given city the edge they have been looking for in seasons past.

However, Sparky is no comparison to his master, who dominated 30 major titles, including 2 Champions league trophies, and the league, won no fewer than 10 times, and it will be to Fergie, who United look to, to wipe the smug smiles donned by many of the city faithful since United’s collapse.

Berba, the difference?

Form Guide:

Despite the bitter defeats of last season, in which luck guided city to victory, the reds are still favourites going into the tie, winning 12 of the past 22 meetings, with only 5 defeats. However, in terms of recent form city come out with the upper hand with 2 victories to nil, whereas united come off the back of 2 goaless draws. This seems to spell danger however, the lack of attacking flair looks to have drained the champions of goals with missing Berbatov, however, his probable return turns things around dramatically, and United fans will have to hope the Bulgarian Superstar is available, and fit, for selection. If not, let’s pray United have pulled it together, and go against their recent run of form.

Ins and Outs:

As mentioned, Dimitar Berbatov is back in training after a hamstring injury and should be ready to go on Sunday. Skipper Gary Neville is also back in contention after recovering from a groin injury, however Fergie has preferred Da Silva for the majority of the season, so we might see Gary Neville rested to see what the wonderkid can produce under ‘derby conditions’. However, Wes, Hargreaves & Scholesy are all out due to long-standing injuries, and will not be available. A shame as experience might be the key to unlock City’s luck. Sparky also has problems with long-standing injuries with duo Martin Petrov, and Valeri Bojinov, out, with midfielder Michael johnson sidelined with a groin strain, and may not be available to play.

Predicted Score:

With both factors mentioned above taken into account, the match will be fiercely contested in the midfield, however, towards the end of the 90′, I think United’s strength and endurance will prevail with a Ronaldo goal towards the dying moments clinching it for United. The other alternative is that United dominate and produce a stunning performace, ending their goal drought. Taking these statements and combining them, outcome;

3-1

Ronny ! vidic! Berba!                                                           de souza Robinho

Star man:

Robinho. City’s deadline-day record signing has taken to the English game like a duck to water, firing nine goals in 14 games for the Blues.

Deleted the Pic App test post now. You happy?

I took the comment about me making you sick and degrading the site offensively, just to let you know.

I don’t see why it hurt you so much?!

  • swji

But I cannot fauly your article (maybe apart from the use of nicknames like Scholesy etc.) but very good preview.

Thanks for the kind comments on my Blackburn review.

Swji, I personally know giggs_11 and I know he means no harm. The ”you make me sick” part is an inside joke, not intended to be offensive, so I wouldn’t be too bothered by it.

Fair enough. Just thought he was going a bit overboard. Doesn’t worry me, but would be nice for fellow bloggers to get along.

Also he made a comment about ‘Darius Vassell is my Hero’ discrediting the Man U blog. My message to Giggs 11 is to not worry about that either. Just a bit of banter I expect. Even if it isn’t, there’s no point worrying about our detractors.
