Turkey play in Group A against Czech Republic, Portugal and hosts Switzerland. The Turkish squad stands a good chance of doing well in the competition, with their main adversaries for the 2nd place being the Czech Republic, after Portugal most likely win the group. A young player whose talent may be discovered in this year’s competition is 19-year-old Nuri Sahin. Nuri was born in Germany on the 5th September 1988. He plays as a midfielder and is contracted to Borussia Dortmund. He is currently out on loan at Dutch club …

Having to play in this edition’s Group of Death is no easy task. However, Romania may have a small chance of impressing in Switzerland/Austria 2008, and one of the main contributors may be Stuttgart’s 22-year old (2nd Oct 1985) striker Ciprian Marica. The young Romanian has joined the German team in the summer of 2007 from Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported 8 million Euros, a record fee for Stuttgart.
About Marica, Stuttgart’s sporting director said: “Ciprian is a very flexible forward, and a permanent thorn in the side of any opposition …

Germany will be going into Euro 2008 as favourites, having been the first side to qualify and providing displays that send clear warnings to their opponents that they are the real deal and are have more than a good chance of returning home after the tournament as European Champions. They have a formidable squad studded with current and future stars, but none are more critical to their Euro campaign than Miroslav Klose. “Salto-Klose”, as he is affectionately dubbed by fans, is arguably the German team’s most popular player, both within …

Artur Boruc will be the star man for Poland in this year’s European Championships. Poland’s performance in the competition depends ultimately upon the goalkeeper’s form during the competition. Artur was born on the 20th February 1980 and currently plays for Scottish club Celtic. Although his rivals for the number one shirt at Poland have signed for big clubs, they haven’t yet improved enough to earn the Poland No 1 shirt. Kuszczak and Fabianski have signed for Man Utd and Arsenal respectively.
Boruc is 1.93 metres tall and has played in 32 …

Alexander Frei will be the star player of the Swiss squad in this year’s edition of the European Championships. Frei is 28 years old, born on the 15th July 1979, and he plays as a striker for Borussia Dortmund. The reported transfer fee paid by Dortmund to secure his services from French club Rennes in 2006 is € 5 million. Until now, he has earned 56 caps for Switzerland, in which he scored 32 goals. He only needs three more goals to be considered Switzerland’s number one all-time top scorer. …

I have noticed over the last couple of games that Phil Neville the former Manchester United player and current Everton captain has failed to justify his position as club captain. In the Mersyside Derby yesterday the only things he managed to do is get a yellow card, have an argument with a Liverpool fan and then come off as a substitute very annoyed and gave it to Leon Osman who very surprisingly nearly led Everton to get a late equaliser. After all taken into consideration I believe he should not …

Have you heard the latest joke? Well, it goes like this…

Philippe Mexes, player of No-Totti FC (a.k.a Roma), was reported on Corriere dello Sport, saying the following:
“Manchester is afraid of us. I’ve been told this by my friend Evra.”

The 25-year old French defender is known for giving stupid comments ahead of crucial matches for his side. Before last season’s dumping of Roma by the Red Devils, he said that he wanted to show everyone that he made the best decision to join Roma instead of Manchester United when he left …

Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has stated his wish to negotiate a longer contract at the English club. Rio still has two years left on his current contract, but he would like to end his playing career at the Red Devils. Man Utd are willing to sit around a table and discuss with the 1.92m defender, but it is currently finding it difficult, due to the importance of the games left in this season. Ferdinand has been at Man Utd since 2002 when he joined for £18 million from Leeds …

Villa were again unable to break their hoodoo against the Old Trafford side.
They never really came close. Some early chances were squandered and then United began to turn the screw. A Bouma mistake allowed Christiano Ronaldo to cheekily flick the ball with the outside of his boot past the despairing Carson. Soon after it was 2-0, Ronaldo had time on the right to pinpoint an inch perfect cross to an unmarked Tevez at the back post who coolly headed home.
Matters weren’t helped for Villa when John Carew had to come …

As the final whistle blew at White Hart Lane, jubilated Newcaste fans let out sighs of relief. Newcaste United triumphed over Tottenham 4-1 and had virtually secured safety from relegation.

Daren Bent opened up the scoring for Tottenham in the 26th minute, heading the ball past Steve Harper. This was preceded by some very strong play by Newcastle, something that has been missing as of late. Nicky Butt equalised for Newcastle right before the half and Geremi put them up 2-1 after scoring from a free kick, off a foul by Jonathan Woodgate. Michael Owen scored …
